Epic Treadmill T60 Gets Recalled



The Epic T60 treadmill has been recalled by ICON. All customers who purchased this machine should stop using the product immediately. Call the retail store where you purchased the machine and request information on what steps you should take to return the Epic T60 treadmill.

Owners of the Epic treadmill T60 should have received the following notice from ICON Health & fitness or from Costco. If you did not, you should contact the retailer from whom you purchased the equipment immediately to get instructions. The following notice was sent to all owners of the EpicT60

"ICON Health & Fitness, Inc., of Logan, Utah ("ICON") has issued a product recall notice for the Epic T60 Treadmill.

The problem was reported by ICON: that "During initial assembly the gas spring/shock can be damaged if the walking platform is folded up and goes beyond the vertical position"

Possible Injury: This action can cause the shock to contact the treadmill roller and be damaged and could propel parts out.

The parts of the shock could hit a bystander causing injury. ICON has received one report of a minor ankle laceration, one report of a punctured foot and five reports of minor property damage"

The Epic T60 treadmill was sold between September 1, 2004 and March 1, 2005 at Costco Wholesale Warehouses.. The product was sold as Costco item number 820757.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately and check the serial number on the treadmill.

The units subject to this notice have serial numbers of S93623471 through T016000000. The fourth digit should be a 6. Units with serial number of T01xxxxxx or greater T12xxxxxx are not subject to the recall.

The EpicT60 was priced at around $900. But even in 2004 reviews this treadmill was recommended on several sites but with obvious caveats for the buyer. The treadmill doctor reviewed the treadmill and described the parts that ICON used in its treadmills as "cheap" The EpicT60 also had a 12 year warranty on the motor but presented concerns on the keypad and the deck coating and cheap rollers.

The reliability which is one of the most important elements in purchasing a treadmill was considered low on all reviewers' comments for this unit.

Checking consumer reports and unbiased review sites for treadmills is a wise move. These reviews are intended to help the average consumer make an informed decisions based on the actual testing of the equipment by experts.

The Epic Treadmill t60 looked like a good buy at under $1,000. However, all the reviews online for quality machines warn that the best quality in treadmills is usually found in treadmills at the $1,000 mark and above. The reviews for the Epic treadmill t60 all reported on the reliability of the machine. and commented on the "cheap part". it is always wise to check on products before you buy.
